MailerLite vs GetResponse: compact newsletter stack or broader marketing suite?

MailerLite starts with a smaller free list. GetResponse allows more free contacts and bundles a wider marketing feature set, but its subscriber-counting rules require attention.

Working verdict

MailerLite is the cleaner starting point for a very small newsletter. GetResponse is more attractive when landing pages and a path to broader automation matter enough to justify its paid entry and counting rules.

Free-plan difference

Both products currently document 2,500 monthly sends, but GetResponse allows twice as many contacts. The practical result is different frequency: a 250-person MailerLite list could receive ten full-list sends, while a 500-person GetResponse list could receive five, before accounting for automations or test messages.

Automation after the trial period

GetResponse includes premium feature access for the first 14 days. A buyer should distinguish what can be built during that period from what remains available afterward. MailerLite also uses a 14-day premium trial, and its free-plan features and announced August 2026 limits should be checked at implementation time.

Subscriber hygiene affects cost

GetResponse documents billing based on the maximum subscriber count reached during the month. It also treats the same address in separate lists as separate contacts. A structure built around many overlapping lists can therefore increase the billed count even without increasing the number of unique people.

Best decision rule

Choose based on the workflow that remains after the trial, not the workflow demonstrated during it. Map each required automation, landing page, list, and monthly send before opening an account.
